Many people in Belarus use water from wells. However, from a chemical and microbiological point of view, the majority of the wells that supply water to many villages and small towns do not meet health standards.
If you have concerns about the quality of well water:
- Have the water tested in a specialised laboratory. Often such services are provided by centres for hygiene and epidemiology.
- Improve the quality of drinking water by using a filter that is appropriate to the type of water supplied (i.e. hard or soft).
- Leave the water to stand for some time before giving it to your pets or using it to water your plants.
